»We investigate solid-solid, solid-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces on an atomic scale as well as processes that take place at these interfaces. For this purpose we develop advanced microscopy and X-ray scattering methods with high spatial and temporal resolution. With high-speed-scanning tunneling microscopy, for instance, we observe atomic movement at metal electrodes or with surface X-ray diffraction we investigate the formation and growth of materials on a nanometer scale at synchrotron radiating sources.«

 

Olaf Magnussen. Since 2001 professor for Solid State Physics at Kiel University. Before that research assistant at the Surface Chemistry and Catalysis department at Ulm University (from 1996) and postdoc at Brookhaven National Laboratory, USA (from 1993). 1993 PhD, 2000 habilitation at Ulm University. Born in Niebüll.
