«As a solid state physicist I have always been interested in materials with new functional properties. Tailoring functional properties in multi component materials on the nanoscale is what excites me most. To do this, we use vapour deposition in our working group. I am really enthusiastic about the many possibilities Kiel offers for cooperation with partners from different departments and faculties.»

Franz Faupel. Professor for Multicomponent Materials at Kiel University since 1994. Before scientific assistant at the Institute for Metal Physics at the University of Göttingen/Germany and Visiting Researcher at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights/USA. Doctoral degree at the University of Göttingen in 1985, habilitation 1992.
