»My goal in investigating dusty plasmas is to capture many-particle systems  composed of nano and micro particles with high speed cameras and to explain their manifold movement patterns by means of models. Experiments under extreme conditions like zero gravity or strong magnetic fields are particularly appealing. There are many different plasmas with nano dust in space as well as in technical process plasmas.«

Alexander Piel. Since 1989 professor for Atom and Plasma Physics at Kiel University. Born in Dortmund. In 1977 doctorate and in 1986 habilitation at Bochum University.
