»The surface of a cell is perhaps as exciting as the surface of our planet. At the same time it is much smaller, only nanometers in dimension. Despite this, it is probably worse understood than earth’s surface. Many people don’t know: The surface of mammalian cells is highly glycosylated. A polysaccharide layer, the so called glycocalyx, covers every cell und provides for a healthy cellular activity; but how does it all work? My working group is devoted to these sweet puzzles.«

Thisbe K. Lindhorst. Since 2000 professor for Organic and Biological Chemistry at Kiel University. Before that visiting professor at Ottawa University, Canada, and private lecturer at Hamburg University. 1991 PhD at Hamburg University, 1998 habilitation.
