Portrait

»My working group does research on careful methods how to replace defective cardiac valves by means of a catheter since 1997. We have been offering such a surgery on the beating heart for the aortic valve since 2013. However, this only for patients who can’t be expected to put up with an open-heart surgery. We are leading in the field of replacement of the mitral valve, which is suspended between two ventricles. We are the first worldwide to be able to insert and fix a valve via catheter in this delicate place.«

Georg Lutter. Since October 2009 professor for Experimental Cardiac Surgery and Valve Replacement at Kiel University. Before that senior physician and research director at the clinic for cardiac and vascular surgery at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein. Born in Hamburg. 1993 PhD at Hamburg University, 2004 habilitation at CAU.
