Petro Feketa receives the KiNSIS' Early Career Award 2021

Oct 04, 2021

Fekete erhält PreisFor the second time the members of KiNSIS have now awarded the “Early Career Award” for young, talented and interdisciplinary working researchers. This year, Dr. Petro Feketa from the research group "Automation and Control" of Professor Thomas Meurer at the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology receives the award, which is endowed with 5,000 euros. Regina Scherließ, deputy KiNSIS spokesperson, presented the award at this year's retreat of KiNSIS, which took place September 28-29, 2021, at the Nordsee Akademie in Leck. Feketa thanked the KiNSIS Board and presented his research and future plans to the participants on-site. (Read more)

Terraschke and FeketaThe applied mathematician develops, among other things, theoretical methods for the analysis and control of complex dynamical networks. The results will also be used in the Collaborative Research Centre 1461 "Neurotronics: Bio-inspired Information Pathways", that started at Kiel University this year. It aims at transferring findings on energy-efficient information processing in the brain to technical processes. With his research, Feketa wants to contribute towards a deeper understanding of the internal organization of neuro-inspired oscillator networks and explores the interplay between the dynamical behavior of oscillators, adaptation mechanisms of the couplings, and the interconnection topology of the network. After completing his doctoral studies at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, he worked in Erfurt and Kaiserslautern before he came to Kiel in 2018 to join the Research Unit 2093 "Memristive devices for neuronal systems", junior professor Huayna Terraschke (left) summarized Feketa's career to date in her presentation at the retreat.

KiNSIS launched the Early Career Support Programme 2020 to support young scientists from the nano and surface science at the beginning of their careers. In addition to the Early Career Award, the programme also includes support for individual research projects (Micro Proposals, 2,000 euros each) and national and international research stays (Lab Exchange, 2,000 euros each). The funding programme is to be announced annually, with the next call for proposals expected at the beginning of 2021. It is aimed at CAU scientists who have completed their Ph.D. in the nano or surface science and are pursuing particularly interdisciplinary or unconventional projects. They can apply either themselves or upon proposal of a KiNSIS member. The speaker group decides on the applications.
